Introducing: MSI Afterburner

I was having some trouble recording the explanation videos for The Ghost Froom, so I was looking into finding different programs to record with (Fraps auto-splits videos and has huge files, Playclaw screws up the audio and can be laggy, Gamecam is retarded…)

And thus I ran across… MSI Afterburner

Turns out MSI Afterburner was exactly what I was looking for.  For those of you sick and tired of Fraps, Gamecam, and Playclaw, check this program out!

Features:

-Highly customizable

-Doesn’t automatically split videos

-Records in really high quality

-Can record at any FPS you could ever want to specify

-Cool UI

-Can compress video files to very reasonable filesizes.  MJPG compression at 90% quality (which is more than you need, trust me) compresses at ~1gb/3mins at 1280×1024.  Fraps, in comparison, compresses at about 1gb/min at 1280×1024.

-Can record audio from an assortment of sources (if you want input and output use windows to “listen” to your input device and turn down the volume so you don’t have to hear yourself talking).

-IT’S FREE!

There are some other programs too, like Dxtory and Bandicam.  Of these two I’d recommend Dxtory, though it costs $47 (ARR!).  Dxtory has even more features than MSIA, and can record multiple audio streams.  Bandicam has a very very small impact on FPS, so if you want to record at high FPS in like, Skyrim, you should use it!
